The 85th Toronto is proundly committed to offering an inclusive program for boys, girls, or however our member self-identify.
Most of the sections of the 85th usually have one-third girls.
Scouts Canada is committed to inclusivity and diversity in its programs, structure, and membership. They do not discriminate based on gender, culture, sexual orientation, or religious belief. Scouts Canada aims to be a safe space for members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
- 1972: Scouts Canada began accepting girls in the Rover Section
- 1976: The Boy Scouts of Canada organization name was replaced with Scouts Canada
- Late 1970s: The Venturer Section was also opened to girls
- 1992: All program sections were given the option to be co-ed
- 1998: Co-ed Scouting became policy for all sections
While the 85th thankfully has the sponsorship of Runneymede United Church, the 85th and Scouts Canada welcomes all youth and volunteers regardless of their faith, denomination or non-religious personal affirmation. Scouts Canada upholds the principle that religious instruction is the responsibility of parents and religious authorities.
